FACE/OFF: No, our program this month is not about the movie that starred John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. It is about how Windows and OS/X can coexist on the same computer: two faces on a single piece of hardware.
Both operating systems can now run on a Mac, thanks to two new applications called Boot Camp and Parallels, and also to recent changes to the Mac hardware. Intel's new Core Duo processors were introduced with something called “native virtualization”, allowing one operating system to run inside another with little if any loss in speed.
Jason Lewantowicz has agreed to introduce us to Boot Camp and Parallels, show off their best features, and explain how to get the software installed and running. Jason is the current owner of “A Macintosh Store @ Weingarten”. Visit their website at www.applesales.com.
All are welcome. The meetings start at 7:30 p.m. Guests are always welcome. Directions are here.
P.S. The room is small, so arrive early for a good seat.
In spite if it being a bitterly cold night and first meeting
at our new location, we had a full house, as seen in this
photo. The one vacant seat in the left rear was only vacant
because it was small and the person prefered to lean against
the back wall.
Enter campus via College Park Drive, stop at the guard shack and ask for a free parking pass for the DMA meeting, then enter "P" lot. St. Joseph Hall is next to the Immaculate Conception Chapel.
After the meeting, we'll enjoy pizza and conversation at the CiCi's Pizza at 3050 South Dixie just below Dorothy Lane.
